Artistic Directors Jessica Kennedy and Megan Kennedy co-founded junk ensemble. Dedicated to creating works of unconventional and gutsy dance theatre, junk ensemble are strongly committed to innovation and bravery within the work.
Megan Kennedy trained at Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, New York City and received a Bachelor Honours degree in Theatre Arts from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. She has performed with Retina Dance Company (London), recently with CoisCéim Dance Theatre (IRL) in Faun/As You Are, The Abbey National Theatre's production of Romeo and Juliet, Brokentalkers Theatre (IRL), Bedrock Productions (IRL), and toured the UK twice with Cat in A Cup Theatre Company (Scotland). Megan has also worked with Rex Levitates Dance Company (IRL), Storytellers Unplugged (Romania), This Torsion Dance Theatre (IRL), Shakram Dance Company (IRL). Choreography includes Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades Opera at Edinburgh Festival Theatre, and Brimstone and Treacle for QM Acting Company. Megan is Secretary to the Board of Dance Ireland.
Jessica Kennedy trained in the U.S.A., Dublin and London, and completed her BA Hons in Dance Performance and English Literature at Middlesex University, London. She has performed with Storytelling Unplugged Company (Romania), Stage Junket Company (Edinburgh), in London with The National Youth Dance Company, Compound Productions, Adrenalin Dance, Satu Tuomisto Dance Company, Retina Dance Company and Blast Theory; in Ireland with Myriad Dance, Brokentalkers Theatre and productions with The Ark Theatre, The Pavilion Theatre and Romeo and Juliet at The Abbey Theatre. Other work includes behindtheeyeliesbone (Myriad Dance, chor. Ella Clarke) at Dublin Dance Festival 2008 and a wrestling dance film. She was awarded Best Female Performer for Dublin Fringe Festival 2006.
Winners of the Culture Ireland Touring Award in 2008, an Excellence and Innovation Award in 2007 and listed as an Irish Times Highlight for 2008, junk ensemble’s work has toured nationally and internationally. junk ensemble are part of Project Catalyst at Project Arts Centre. junk ensemble have been commissioned to make a new work in Áix-en-Provence in July 2010.
junk ensemble has worked with UK based Blast Theory and choreographed and performed for eX Vocal Ensemble, Brokentalkers, Daniel Figgis Opera for Dance 'The Banquet', and The Caucasion Chalk Circle for Trinity School of Drama. junk ensemble performed in Grounded at The Ark Cultural Centre for Children and Can You Catch A Mermaid at The Pavilion Theatre, and Romeo and Juliet at The Abbey Theatre. |
