Artistic Directors Jessica Kennedy and Megan Kennedy co-founded junk ensemble in 2004. Dedicated to creating works of innovative and gutsy dance theatre, junk ensemble are strongly committed to bravery within the work.

Megan Kennedy trained at Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, New York City and received a Bachelor Honours degree in Theatre Arts from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. She has performed with Retina Dance Company (London), CoisCéim Dance Theatre (IRL), Brokentalkers Theatre (IRL) The Abbey Theatre's production of Romeo and Juliet, Bedrock Productions (IRL), Cat in A Cup Theatre Company (Scotland), Storytelling Unplugged (Romania), Orla Barry/Firefly Productions (Belgium), and for The Pavilion and The Ark (IRL). For film: Wonder House (Jameson Film Festival 2012), Her Mother's Daughters (Dance on Camera, NYC and RTE Dance on the Box), Siblings (Fergus Byrne). Choreography includes Tchaikovsky’s Queen of Spades Opera (Edinburgh Festival Theatre), Caucasion Chalk Circle (Samuel Beckett Theatre) and eX Ensemble (IRL). Megan is Secretary to the Board of Dance Ireland.

Jessica Kennedy  trained in the USA, Dublin and London, completing her BA Hons in Dance and English Literature in London. She has performed in the U.K. with the English National Youth Company, Retina Dance Company, Compound Productions, Adrenalin Dance, Satu Tuomisto Dance Company, Storytelling Unplugged (Romania), Stage Junket (Edinburgh) and with visual artist Orla Barry (Belgium). In Ireland she has worked with Blast Theory, Brokentalkers (The Blue Boy, In Real Time, On This One Night), Myriad Dance, eX Ensemble and in productions with The Ark, The Pavilion Theatre and The Abbey Theatre. She has performed in dance films Two Hundred Feet (Ella Clarke/Willie White 2009) and Our Mother''s Daughter (RTÉ Dance on the Box 2010) and also performs in the band, You can call me Frances. She was a Dublin Fringe Festival Judge in 2009 and was recently awarded a Dance Ireland choreographic bursary. Jessica was awarded Best Female Performer in 2006.


Richard Wakely is an independent theatre and dance producer working internationally out of Ireland. He is International Producer for junk ensemble and International Associate for Spain's Sol Pico Dance Company. Recent theatre productions include tours for Nottingham Playhouse of Seamus Heaney's The Burial of Thebes (USA 2008) and Steven Berkoff's production of On The Waterfront (Hong Kong Arts Festival 2010). Former positions include Commissioner of the China-Ireland Cultural Exchange Programme, Managing Director of the Abbey Theatre and General Manager of London's Hampstead Theatre.


Winners of the Culture Ireland Touring Award in 2008, an Excellence and Innovation Award in 2007 and listed as an Irish Times Highlight for 2008, junk ensemble’s work has toured nationally and internationally. junk ensemble are part of Project Catalyst at Project Arts Centre. junk ensemble have worked with U.K. based Blast Theory and choreographed and performed for eX Vocal Ensemble, Brokentalkers, Kidding Ensemble, Daniel Figgis' Opera for Dance The Banquet and for Trinity School of Drama.
